This paper has the objective of analyzing how photographer Klaus Mitteldorf includes, in his advertising work, his artistic expressiveness added to the values of the brand for which he photographs, and which can be considered ads with an aesthetic differential in relation to ads made by less renowned photographers who leave aside their individual expression, in the name of results sought by advertisers. The choice of Mitteldorf's work as an object of study for the reflection presented here was, therefore, due to the perception of characteristics of what is conventionally called expression-photography, an interest of this research when mixed with advertising photography. To account for the proposal, firstly, a historical resumption of advertising photography is done, highlighting the changes that have occurred since its emergence and how much these changes were and still are influenced by cultural and artistic movements in society. Then, a characterization of contemporary advertising photography is done, seeking to highlight its objectives and main issues that move advertisers and agencies responsible for the advertisements. Then, in the third chapter, the conceptualization of expression-photography is done, based on the work of André Rouillé (2009), evidencing its use in advertising. The case study is carried out in the fourth chapter, where eight advertising images by Klaus Mitteldorf are analyzed separately, based on semiotics, and then the patterns found in the photographer's work are highlighted. ...
