A ultraestrutura dos espermatozoides e espermiogênese foram estudadas nas espécies Piaractus mesopotamicus, Mylossoma duriventre, Serrasalmus maculatus e Metynnis mola de Serrasalminae, sendo dois padrões distintos reconhecidos: um comum a Mylossoma, Serrasalmus e Metynnis, e o segundo característico de Piaractus.
