Learning means being in a constant search for balance, stability, order, but it is the imbalances, the disorder, that provoke the changes, adaptations, regulations, that make learning possible. Understanding learning as a continuous construction process is a central aspect for the two theoretical bases studied by the authors of this work, Complexity Theory (CT) and Genetic Epistemology (GE). Considering these aspects, the present work took place with the intention of discussing and bringing together understandings about the learning process, having as theoretical assumptions CT and GE. According to this goal, this article presents, through learning scenes, a case study on the knowledge-building trajectories followed by a student throughout a graduate course. The metaphor "learning scenes" was used to describe some moments experienced by the investigated subject, highlighting evidences of her learning process in the analyzed context. The learning scenes were selected from data collected from the student's journal. These two theories approximation did not intend to establish a parallelism, but to present a link of discussion between them, highlighting some converging and complementary aspects. It was noted that the approaches on the same object of study are especially distinguished according to their scope: while the TC it is more comprehensive and analyzes aspects of a complex system in a global way, GE turns to more circumscribed phenomena, trying to explain structural and functional elements of the process of human knowledge construction, including in a learning process, according to the subject – object interactive model. Finally, it is emphasized that these theories are not exclusive and that to understand both of them collaborated on the learning process of the studied subject comprehension. ...
