Jane Austen vista de longe : uma análise do espaço geográfico em Amor e amizade e Emma (1790-1815)

Abstract

Este trabalho de conclusão de curso que tem como objetivo, analisar a locomoção das protagonistas femininas nos romances Amor e amizade (1790) e Emma (1815), Laura e Emma Woodhouse, respectivamente, escritos pela romancista inglesa Jane Austen com a intenção de entender quais são os motivos que propiciam esses deslocamentos, a que eles estão relacionados, e se existe uma mudança no modo como ele é caracterizado durante a juventude e a maturidade da autora. Como suporte teórico para entender o espaço nos romances, esse trabalho se ampara nas ideias de Franco Moretti (2003) que vai propor um mapa geográfico do romance, Edward Said (2007) com o pensamento de uma “geografia imaginativa”, que vai pensar o espaço e as suas delimitações como uma criação da mente, e que também vai trazer a concepção do filósofo francês Gaston Bachelard e a sua “poética do espaço”, que vai nos explicar sobre o significado que pode ser atribuído ao espaço. Assim, vamos observar que vai existir um modo de representação do espaço nos dois momentos distintos em que cada romance é escrito, refletindo a percepção espacial de Jane Austen, enquanto adolescente e como mulher madura, no qual o casamento, será o ponto em comum que vai unir essas obrar, mostrando também um reflexo da condição feminina na Inglaterra dos séculos XVIII e XIX, onde o matrimônio e o confinamento da mulher ao espaço doméstico era presente. Este trabalho reflete o espaço geográfico dentro do romance, como uma área que oferece oportunidades para a expansão das possibilidades de pesquisa, mediante o uso das fontes literárias.

This course conclusion work that aims to analyze the locomotion of female protagonists in the novels Love and friendship (1790) and Emma (1815), Laura and Emma Woodhouse written by the English novelist Jane Austen with the intention of understanding wath are the reasons that they provide these displacements, to wich they are related, and wheter there is a change in the way it is characterized during the author’s youth and maturity. As a theoretical support to understand space in the novels, this work supported by the ideas of Franco Moretti (2003), who will propose a geographical map of the novel, Edward Said (2007), with the thought of an “imaginative geography”, who will think the space and its delimitations as a creation of the mind, and that will also bring the conception of the French philosopher Gaston Bachelard and his “poetics of space”, wich will explain to us the meaning that can be attributed to space. Thus, we will observe that there will be a way of representing space in the two distinct moments in which each novel is written, reflecting Jane Austen’s spatial perception, as a teenager and as a mature woman, in wich marriage will be the common point that it will unite these works, also showing a reflection of the female condition in England in the 18th and 19th centuries, where marriage and the confinement of women to the domestic space was present. This work reflects the geographical space within the novel, as an area that offers opportunities for the expansion of research possibilities, through the use of literary sources.
