This work’s theme was the update of cinematic narratives in remakes, considering cinema’s social role. The films Aladdin (1992) and Aladdin (2019) were chosen as research objects and the study focused on narrative aspectos that were updated by the influence of feminist movements in their production. Thus, the general objective of this research was to put in evidence how the narrative structures of Aladdin's new version cause changes in the narrative function of the Jasmine character, in order to reflect social changes that have occurred since the release of the original film. The theoretical background is built on studies about mass culture production, according to the critical theories of Communication; technical guidelines on the construction of cinematic narratives; and context of feminist movements in the United States in relation to Walt Disney's animated film production. The chosen methodology is film analysis and narrative analysis, combined. The study found that Jasmine’s character building changed from a narrative point of view: in the remake, she possesses subjectivity, activity and visibility. This change goes in consonance with historical demands of the feminist movements and represents a valorization of the female character. However, it was also considered that these narrative updates do not link the character to current goals of the American feminist movement. ...
