Depois da morte mas antes do Paraíso : as diferenças e semelhanças entre o discurso oficial da Igreja Católica e a crença expressa nos exempla em relação à purgação dos pecados no pósmorte na Península Ibérica dos séculos XIV e XV

Abstract

O presente trabalho teve por objetivo perceber como as coleções de exempla compiladas ou escritas na Península Ibérica durante os séculos XIV e XV tratam da possibilidade de remissão dos pecados após a morte do indivíduo, e se há correlação entre as concepções acerca deste tema nestas coleções de exempla com aquilo que era pregado oficialmente pela Igreja Católica durante o mesmo período, nomeadamente a doutrina sobre o Purgatório. Percebeu-se a existência de grandes discrepâncias entre essas coleções e a doutrina acerca do Purgatório. As fontes foram então comparadas com outras de mesmo gênero e temporalidade, porém de espaços geográficos diferentes, e também com fontes de gênero diferente, porém de espaços geográficos semelhantes, para se saber se as diferenças encontradas se deviam ao tipo de fonte ou ao local de produção das coleções, obtendo como resultado a segunda opção. Com isso concluiu-se que, ao que indicam as fontes estudadas, provavelmente a doutrina acerca do Purgatório ainda não havia se difundido na Península Ibérica nos séculos XIV e XV, mostrando que há um descompasso entre as igrejas peninsulares e a região central do catolicismo. Contudo, se mostrou bastante difícil perceber se a concepção expressa nos exempla possuía algum caráter popular regional, já que a análise das fontes mostrou que os autores das coleções buscam exemplos em diversas obras espalhadas tanto geograficamente quanto temporalmente.

The present work aimed to comprehend how the exempla’s collection organized or written at Iberian Peninsula during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries deals with the possibility of sins purge after the death of the individual, and whether there is some relation between the conceptions about this topic on the exempla’s collections and what was officially preached by the Catholic Church in the same period, specifically the Purgatory’s doctrine. It was clearly noticed that there are discrepancies between these collections and the Purgatory’s doctrine. The sources were compared with others of the same genre and temporality, although the places were different, as well as the sources of a different genre were compared but with similar places, to know whether the differences found were about the kind of source or to the place where the collections were produced, obtaining as result the second option. It has been concluded that probably, according to the sources, the Purgatory’s doctrine has not been widespread on the Iberian Peninsula in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. However, it proved difficult to comprehend if the conceptions expressed in the exempla would has some regional popular aspect, since the analysis of the sources has demonstrated that the authors of the collections have demanded concerning the examples of the several works geographically and temporally disseminated.
