The adaptation of the hole drilling method on the measurement of micro-scale residual stress can be done using a scanning electron microscope equipped with a focused ion beam by micro-machining (SEM-FIB). However, such technique is innovative and not yet explored deeply in the literature. This paper seeks to evaluate, using numerical modelling, experimental tests used due to obtain micro-scale residual stresses. The numerical analysis of the face-centered cubic single crystal metal was conducted using a user-material subroutine in a finite element software, applying a crystalline plasticity model. Initially, for model calibration purpose, a perfectly plastic isotropic material subjected to bending was evaluated. Later, obtaining converging and satisfactory results, the crystalline plasticity was incorporated. Then, it was conducted the analysis of the crystalline structure influence in the single crystal via its rotation in six different orientations. The results show different stress gradients along the single crystal height for each crystalline orientation, which demonstrates the different stress levels necessary to activate the slip systems in each orientation. Finally, the paper displays the importance of the correct positioning of the crystalline structure for experimental tests execution, due to the sensibility of the residual stress in respect to its orientation. ...
