Acervos étnicos : preservando a história da imigração alemã e italiana no Rio Grande do Sul

Abstract

O objetivo deste artigo é discutir a preservação de documentos relacionados à imigração italiana e alemã. Assim, abordam-se duas instituições de salvaguarda de acervos arquivísticos. Para isso, utiliza-se a teoria sobre arquivos, acervos e espaços de memória. Considera-se que a preservação de documentos, nesses espaços contribui para compreender aspectos histórico-culturais dos grupos étnicos. Os acervos pesquisados são o Instituto Histórico da Igreja Evangélica Luterana do Brasil (IELB) e o Arquivo Histórico do Rio Grande do Sul, ambos situados na capital do estado, Porto Alegre. No primeiro, foram pesquisadas revistas e materiais editados pela própria instituição. O foco recaiu em aspectos da escolarização orientada pela igreja luterana. No segundo arquivo, foram consultados documentos referentes à imigração italiana, sobretudo no município de Pelotas (RS). Esses documentos auxiliama compreender a imigração italiana no Rio Grande do Sul e fornecem um contexto importante para pensar as instituições educativas organizadas e mantidas pelo grupo étnico dos italianos.

This article aims to discuss the preservation of documents related to Italian and German immigration. Thus, two institutions that safeguard archival collections are discussed. For this, the theory on ar-chives, collections and spaces of memory is used. It is thought that the preservation of documents in these spaces contributes to understanding cultural and historical aspects of ethnic groups. The catalogues investigated are the Evangelical Church of the Lutheran Confession in Brazil (IELB) Historical Institute and the Historical Archive of Rio Grande do Sul, both located in the capital of the state, Porto Alegre. At the first one, magazines and the institution's own material have been analysed. The emphasis was upon schooling aspects guided by the Lutheran Church. At the second institution, documents referring to Italian immigration, especially in the city of Pelotas (RS), have been accessed. Such documents are helpful in order to comprehend the Italian immigration that took place in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, as well as provide an important context to reflect upon the educational institution organised and sustained by the Italian ethinicgroup.
