A autorrepresentação e a busca de emancipação da mulher nos textos de Josefina Alvares de Azevedo

Abstract

A presente pesquisa recupera os textos publicados por Josefina Alvares de Azevedo, escritora e jornalista, que dedicou sua vida à defesa da educação da mulher como a condição essencial para a sua emancipação. Como diretora do periódico A Família, ela oportunizou a publicação de mais de 190 textos de autoria feminina e atuou de modo combativo a favor do voto feminino, um dos temas principais de sua produção. Além de recuperar a biografia e a produção de Josefina, é analisada a representação da figura feminina expressa em seu periódico, através dos textos por ela escritos e dos textos publicados por diversas autoras do final do século XIX. Sob o direcionamento interpretativo da Teoria Crítica Feminista e seu encontro com a literatura, a análise do corpus orienta-se pelo questionamento de como se dá a representação simbólica dos papéis sociais femininos nessas produções e de que relação ela estabelece com o contexto sociocultural, para, assim, averiguar se correspondia às normas de comportamento social impostas às mulheres ou a subvertiam. A partir dessa indagação, notase que os textos de Josefina e das escritoras que publicavam em seu periódico introjetavam os paradigmas culturais apoiados em estereótipos e em comportamentos relacionados à mulher que vigoravam no período, tanto em sua representação conservadora como em sua representação libertária.

The present research retrieves texts published by Josefina Alvares de Azevedo, a writer and journalist, who dedicated her life to the defense of women's education as the essential condition for their emancipation. As director of the newspaper The Family, she opportunized the publication of more than 190 texts of female authorship and worked in a combative way in favor of the female vote, one of the main themes of her production. In addition to recovering the biography and production of Josefina, the representation of the female figure expressed in her newspaper is analyzed, through the texts written by her and the texts published by several authors of the late nineteenth century. Under the interpretative direction of Critical Feminist Theory and its encounter with literature, the analysis of the corpus is guided by the questioning of how the symbolic representation of the feminine social roles in these productions occurs and what relation it establishes with the sociocultural context, thus, to ascertain whether the norms of social behavior imposed on women corresponded to or subverted them. Based on this question, it can be noted that the texts of Josefina and the writers who published in her newspaper introjected the cultural paradigms supported by stereotypes and behaviors related to women that were in force in the period, both in its conservative representation or in the libertarian.
