Abstract
The study discusses the efficiency of technical analysis strategies, which are known as active methods, in opposition to passive efficient allocations, obtained by optimization of portfolio choices based on the modern portfolio theory. In addition, the study sought to discuss the influence that the pursuit of these processes has on the behavioral traits of human decision taking in financial markets. From a literature review that intends to locate and insert the reader in the proposed discussion ...
From a literature review that intends to locate and insert the reader in the proposed discussion, are presented different approaches that showed relevance and applicability in different historic periods and under different circumstances, from both qualitative and quantitative points of view. Through a series of empirical evidences collected from national and foreign references, the work sought to confront theoretical and practical approaches in order to evaluate the qualities and weaknesses of technical analysis and active methods of portfolio management, highlighting the processes that best perform under practical basis. The superiority of alternative methods, such as passive and buy-and-hold strategies in producing efficient allocations from different perspectives is observed; the methods of technical analysis, under the measurement of different indicators, are unable to provide efficient performances, leading investors to allocative and cognitive errors. ...
