O olhar de Jacob Prudênciio : aspectos de uma coleção fotográfica

Abstract

Este trabalho consistiu em estudo sobre a coleção fotográfica de Jacob Prudêncio Herrmann, fotógrafo amador associado do Photo-Club Helios, uma agremiação de fotógrafos amadores de Porto Alegre, cuja duração se estendeu do início até meados do século XX. A investigação é do tipo qualitativo, na forma de pesquisa exploratória. Aborda a trajetória do artista, nascido em Porto Alegre no final do século XIX, sua versatilidade no desempenho de algumas atividades culturais paralelas a sua profissão de Guarda-Livros. Embora a coleção tenha sido pouco trabalhada, algumas fotografias estiveram em exposição na Casa de Cultura Mario Quintana, em 2002. Apresenta os conceitos de Coleção segundo Krzysztof Pomian e Cultura Visual, conforme Paulo Knauss. Divulga informações acerca do fotógrafo e do contexto que envolve a sua produção fotográfica. Caracteriza os itens da coleção, destacando os aspectos de conservação e acondicionamento dos mesmos. Descreve o conjunto de materiais que o fotógrafo acumulou durante a sua vida. Procura aproximar a coleção das práticas museológicas. Menciona as imagens de sua autoria publicadas em livros, revista e jornais. Conclui que é pertinente aprofundar os estudos sobre a coleção e, assim, permitir o compartilhamento e a difusão dos conhecimentos ainda não averiguados por falta de pesquisa e análise detalhadas dos materiais.

This paper presents a study on the photographic collection from Jacob Prudêncio Herrmann – an amateur photographer affiliated to the Photo-Club Helios, a collective of amateur photographers from Porto Alegre – whose work lasted from the early to mid-20th century. The data collection produced for the study is qualitative, and it was performed through exploratory research. It approaches the life of the artist, born in Porto Alegre in the end of the 19th century, as well as his versatility at developing some parallel cultural agendas while working as a bookkeeper. Even though his works have had little exposure, some photographs have been displayed at Casa de Cultura Mario Quintana, in 2002. Presents the concepts according to Krzysztof Pomian's Collection and Paulo Knauss's Visual Culture. It spreads information on the photographer and the context which surrounds his photographic production. It features the items of the collection, emphasizing their conservation and storage methods. It describes the set of materials which were acquired by the artist during his life. It brings together both collection and museological practices. It mentions works created by him, which have been published on books, magazines and newspapers. It concludes further studies about the collection are necessary to allow sharing and spreading of recent knowledge, still unverified due to the lack of research and materials thorough analysis.
