Ordenha sangrenta : marcas de historicidade inseridas na narrativa cinematográfica do filme A Bruxa (2016)

Abstract

Em 2016 foi lançado no cinema o filme The VVitch: A New-England Folktale, traduzido para português como A Bruxa. Dirigido pelo estadunidense Robert Eggers, o longametragem é ambientado na Nova Inglaterra do século XVII, no ano de 1630, época dos primeiros assentamentos de imigrantes britânicos. A história gira em torno de uma família puritana, que após ser expulsa de um plantation devido a dissidências religiosas decide levar uma vida cristã devota em meio a uma região selvagem. O período formativo da Nova Inglaterra é extremamente ímpar em diversos de seus atributos. A grande migração deu início a um deslocamento massivo de calvinistas radicais ingleses ao Novo Mundo sob a égide messiânica de fundar o “verdadeiro reino de Deus” (livre da corrupção que havia dominado a igreja católica europeia) o que condicionou de forma particular as relações sociais das colônias britânicas. A partir da chegada dos puritanos na Nova Inglaterra e do seu estabelecimento em pequenas comunidades de profunda intensidade religiosa, começa a se constituir de forma gradativa uma espécie de microcosmos onde a propensão a conflitos por razões de fé e a perseguição daqueles que desafiavam o poder local era, por vezes, gritante. A fim de compreender melhor as questões culturais e o imaginário popular do período, foi realizada a análise do filme com o objetivo de localizar em sua narrativa marcas de historicidade em correlação a produção historiográfica e documentos primários referentes a cultura religiosa da Nova Inglaterra do século XVII.

In 2016 the film The Witch: A New-England Folk Tale, translated to potuguese as A Bruxa was released in cinema. Directed by the native Robert Eggers, the feature film is set in the New England of the seventeenth century of 1630, the time of the first settlements of British immigrants. The story revolves around a Puritan family who, after being expelled from a plantation for religious dissent, decides to live in the wilderness. The formative period of New England is extensive in its attributes. The great migration initiated a massive displacement of English radical Calvinists to the New World under the messianic aegis of founding the "true kingdom of God" (free from the corruption that had dominated the European Catholic Church) which, in a particular way, conditioned the social relations of the British colonies. From the arrival of the Puritans in New England and their establishment into small communities of deep religious intensity, a kind of microcosm begins to gradually emerge where the propensity to conflict over faith and the persecution of those who defy local power was sometimes glaring. In order to better understand cultural issues and the popular imagery of the period, the film was analyzed with the aim of locating in its narrative historicity marks in correlation to the historiographic production and primary sources referring to the religious culture of early New-England.
