Representação de três personagens femininas em Harry Potter : Hermione Granger, Gina Weasley e Molly Weasley

Abstract

Neste trabalho tenho por objetivo analisar a maneiracomo três importantes personagens femininas do universo da saga Harry Potter são representadase discutir de que forma as mesmas são empoderadas. Para fins destapesquisa, os conceitos de empoderamento e de feminino são significados a partir do estudo existencialista e materialista histórico de Beauvoir – que demonstra como a mulher é vista na sociedade na posição de outro/objeto por consequência de eventos históricos e socioculturais. Utilizotambém ideias de Butler, por considerar que o modo como rompe as categorias de gênero e sexualidadecabe ao estudo que faço. As personagens escolhidas para análise são Hermione Granger, Gina Weasley e Molly Weasley porque aparecem durante toda a saga, porque representam diferentes tipos de competências e por serem decisivas para o desenrolar e o desfecho da narrativa. A partir das conceituações apontadas, indico como cada uma das três exerce um papel decisivo na narrativa, com suas diferentes manifestações de poder. Hermione é a jovem inteligente que a tudo questiona e em tudo interfere, principalmente politicamente; Gina é a jovem destemida que enfrenta seus irmãos em prol de sua liberdade de sujeito; e Molly é a mulher que, mesmo dentro de uma vivência de família tradicional, tem muito poder,tanto nessa esfera do privado quanto na comunidade em que vive. Este trabalho tem o objetivo de contribuir para os estudos sobre empoderamento na literatura. A escolha do corpus de aplicação, a saga Harry Potter, vem do meu gosto pessoal e do fato de permitir a análise de três personagens femininas que se posicionam de forma distinta. Acredito na relevância de realizar um estudo utilizando o empoderamento como chave conceitual para análise de personagens literárias.

The aim of this work is to analyse the way in which three important feminine characters in the Harry Potter saga are represented, discussing to what extent they can be considered empowered. For the purposes of this research, the concepts of empowerment and female derive from the existentialist and historical materialistic study of Beauvoir – that demonstrates how woman is seen in society as the other or as an object, as a result of historical and sociocultural events. I also use ideas from Butler, because I consider that the way she breaks with gender categories fits the aims of my research. The characters chosen for this analysis are Hermione Granger, Ginny Weasley, and Molly Weasley because they appear throughout the saga, because they represent different types of skills, and because they are decisive for the outcome of the narrative.According to the concepts above mentioned, I indicate how each of the three characters plays a decisive role in the narrative, with their different manifestations of power. Hermione comes as the intelligent young woman who questions everything and interferes with things; Ginny is the fearless youth who confronts her brothers to defend her freedom as a subject; and Molly is the woman who, even if she lives in a traditional familiar position, has a lot of power, both in the private sphere and in the community in which she lives. This work has the objective of contributing to the study of women’s empowerment in literature. The choice of the Harry Potter saga as my corpora comes from personal taste, and from the fact that I could work with three different kinds of female characters. I believe in the relevance of a study that uses female empowerment as a key for the conceptual analysis of literary characters.
