Entre o labirinto e a neblina : paisagem, imagem e memória

Abstract

Essa pesquisa investiga a relação entre paisagem, imagem e memória, em duas séries de trabalhos artísticos, de minha autoria, realizados nos últimos dois anos. Ambas apresentam imagens feitas a partir da observação da memória. A primeira, Interiores, é composta por desenhos, feitos em grandes formatos, com materiais não convencionais para a arte: fórmica (PVC) e esmalte sintético para metais, usualmente utilizados nos acabamentos da construção civil. Esta série apresenta paisagens arquitetônicas, figurando ambientes comuns de nosso espaço urbano. Analiso seu simbolismo pela interpretação arquetípica do mito do Labirinto do Minotauro e a contextualizo na arte contemporânea brasileira recente, através da análise da obra de três artistas: Adriana Varejão, Daniel Senise e Rodrigo Andrade. A segunda série, Paisagens com Eucaliptos e Neblina, são pinturas acrílicas sobre tela, que apresentam imagens de plantações de eucaliptos nas beiras das estradas sendo engolidas pela neblina. Mapeio o território de influências conscientes e inconscientes que desembocam nelas. A investigação desta pesquisa começa pelos sentidos profundos da paisagem e seu papel na formação de nossa cultura visual, desde a absorção, por ela, das leis da perspectiva. A imagem contemporânea é entendida aqui a partir do conceito de simulacro de Baudrillard, no qual as imagens não se referem a uma realidade exterior, mas elas próprias formam uma realidade autônoma em si.

This research investigate the relation between landscape, image and memory, in two artworks series, from my own, realized in the last two years. The both presents images made from observation of memory. The first one, Interiors, is composed of drawings, done in large sizes, with non-conventional materials for ‘traditional art’: Formica (PVC) and synthetic enamel for metals, usuallly utilized for finishing touches in the construction industry. This series presents architectural landscapes featuring common settings within urban space. I analyse it’s symbolism using a archetypal interpretation of the myth of Minotaur’s labyrinth, and contextualize it within the recent Brazilian art scene through the artworks of three artists: Adriana Varejão, Daniel Senise and Rodrigo Andrade. The second serie, Landscape with Eucalyptus and Fog, is a set of acrylic paintings on canvas that present images of eucalyptus plantations by the roadside being swallowed by the fog. In it, I map the territory of conscious and unconscious influences that pour into it. I begin the research from the deep meanings of landscape and it’s place in the building of our visual culture, since it’s absorption of the laws of perspectives. I analyse the contemporary image using as a starting point the concept of simulacrum by Baudrillard, in which the images do not refer to another reality, but form an autonomous reality in themselves.
