Reflexões sobre o suicídio em Graça Infinita : uma perspectiva pós-humanista

Abstract

A narrativa antropocentrista do sujeito homem, sua superioridade e diferença ontológica do restante do universo (máquinas, matéria, animais e etc.) não é mais um relato suficiente ou mesmo adequado para explicar a realidade (BADMINGTON, 2011). O pós-humanismo traz uma mudança qualitativa na maneira de encarar o mundo à medida que busca desfazer o pensamento de oposições binárias fundamentadas na tradição humanista através de novos “esquemas sociais, éticos e discursivos de subjetivação” (BRAIDOTTI, 2013, p.12), demonstrando contínuos entre o que anteriormente eram consideradas oposições e reavaliando o que é ser humano e suas relações com o não-humano. O presente trabalho consiste em uma análise do romance Graça Infinita (2014), do autor estadunidense David Foster Wallace. O romance narra de forma não-linear acontecimentos nas esferas política e privada do Ano da Fralda Geriátrica Depend, centrando em três eixos principais de personagens: os alunos da Academia de Tênis Enfield; Casa Ennet de Recuperação de Drogas e Álcool e, por último, a encosta de uma montanha, onde conversam dois agentes secretos. A proposta da análise contempla dois objetivos interdependentes: primeiro, investigar os elementos do discurso póshumanista na narrativa e suas contribuições na exploração de subjetividades pós-humanas (BADMINGTON, 2011; BRAIDOTTI, 2013; WOLFE, 2010); segundo, argumentar que os elementos pós-humanistas no romance permitem uma discussão sobre o tema suicídio a partir de diversas perspectivas fundadas em diferentes discursos, sem que uma se sobreponha sobre as outras e, desse modo, interpele reflexões sobre o tema que superam paradigmas dicotômicos.

The anthropocentric narrative of the man, his superiority and ontological difference towards the rest of the universe (machines, matter, animals and so on) is no longer a sufficient or even adequate account to explain reality (BADMINGTON, 2011). Post-humanism brings about a qualitative change in the way we face the world, in that it seeks to undo the thinking of binary oppositions based on the humanist tradition through new "social, ethical and discursive schemes of subject formation" (BRAIDOTTI, 2013, p.12), demonstrating continuous between what were previously considered oppositions and re-evaluating what is being human and its relations with the non- human. The present work consists of an analysis of the novel Infinite Jest (2014), by American author David Foster Wallace. The novel narrates in a non-linear form events in the political and private spheres of the Year of the Depend Adult Undergarment , focusing on three main axes of characters: students of the Enfield Tennis Academy; The Ennet House Drug and Alcohol Recovery House, and, finally, the slope of a mountain, where two secret agents talk. The proposal of the analysis contemplates two interdependent objectives: first, to investigate the elements of the post-humanist discourse in the narrative and its contributions in the exploration of post-human subjectivities (BADMINGTON, 2011; BRAIDOTTI, 2013; WOLFE, 2010); Second, to argue that the post-humanist elements in the novel allow a discussion on the subject of suicide from various perspectives based on different discourses, without one overlapping the others, and in this way, interpolating reflections on the theme that overcome dichotomous paradigms.
