A questão da expansão da monocultura de eucaliptos para produção de celulose tem gerado polêmica em diversos estados brasileiros. Enquanto ambientalistas procuram divulgar os impactos ambientais dessa cultura, as indústrias papeleiras continuam investindo na compra de terras e na ampliação de suas fábricas. No Rio Grande do Sul, o assunto gerou uma manifestação que repercutiu fortemente em todo o território nacional: a ocupação do Horto Florestal da empresa Aracruz Celulose, em Barra do Ribeiro (RS). O objetivo deste estudo é verificar, usando como metodologia a análise descritiva documental, como os dois jornais de maior circulação no Estado – Zero Hora e Correio do Povo - noticiaram esse fato, abordando quais fontes e argumentos foram evidenciados. Tomando como base preceitos éticos do jornalismo, este trabalho procura avaliar se a grande imprensa gaúcha vem cumprindo satisfatoriamente seu papel. A análise final aponta que há um destaque significativamente maior para fontes representantes do governo e da Aracruz Celulose. ...
