Abstract
The impacts of fossil fuel combustion on the environment has encouraged the search for renewable energy sources and the development of more efficient combustion systems. The impacts of fossil fuel combustion on the environment has encouraged the search for renewable energy sources and the development of more efficient combustion systems. Porous media combustion offers an alternantive route, as the combustion efficiency is increased and the emission of pollutants such as NOx and CO is reduced. Premixed combustion of methane-air in inert porous media was numerically and theoretically studied using the onedimensional flame code CHEM1D. Air-fuel mixture input parameters (air ratio and velocity) and solid matrix (porosity and emissivity) were varied, and the flame temperature profile was analyzed and compared with the available literature. The influence of these parameters was also evaluated in the emission of pollutants (NOx, CO and CO2). ...
