Abstract in Portuguese (Brasil)

Safety mechanical elements are designed to collapse after a certain amount of force due mechanical load from machinery operation on its assuredness behalf. The main function of a notched mechanical fuse is to protect the cylinders machining of the roll process and all the other mechanical parts before a maximum tension is applied. This work aims to investigate the behavior of those elements applied on steel rolling mills and analyze its geometrical characteristics supported by the linear elastic fracture mechanics theory. Analytical analysis and also numerical approaches were developed in the study under simplified and also realistic geometries normally used for safety notched mechanical fuses. Furthermore, the numerical and analytical results are discussed. ...
