Os corantes são atualmente um grave problema ambiental devido ao enorme volume de efluente industrial gerado por diferentes indústrias. Neste quadro, a indústria têxtil é uma das maiores contribuintes no que se refere ao lançamento destes poluentes na natureza sem o tratamento apropriado. Ao adentrar os recursos hídricos os corantes restringem a passagem da luz e diminuem a oxigenação da água. Além disso, quando o corante não é tóxico, seus subprodutos provenientes da degradação contém em sua composição molecular aminas e anéis aromáticos, tornando-o problemático. O corante Violeta Cristal (VC) é amplamente usado pelas indústrias têxteis e de couro. Contudo, quando em contato com o ser humano, pode causar sérios danos à saúde como irritação nos olhos e no trato gastrointestinal podendo em certas situações agir como mutagênico. Entre as várias técnicas de tratamento de efluentes existentes, a literatura tem reportado, como método eficiente e de baixo custo, a adsorção. Apesar de o VC possuir alta solubilidade e grau de ionização, a adsorção tem a capacidade de removê-lo. O adsorvente mais usado é o carvão ativado devido a sua alta área superficial e estrutura de poros. Neste contexto, o presente trabalho visa estudar a interação adsorvente-adsorvato através do emprego do carvão ativado granular (CAG) para remoção de corante Violeta Cristal em soluções aquosas. Para tanto foram feitos ensaios de adsorção objetivando determinar as melhores condições de processo avaliando a influência dos seguintes parâmetros: pH, tempo de contato, concentração de adsorvente e concentração inicial de adsorvato. Os estudos de pH mostraram que o pH 6 apresentou um dos maiores índices de remoção. Os dados obtidos no estudo da variação da concentração de adsorvente onde foi utilizado concentração inicial de 100 mg.L-1 de solução de VC em pH 6 com tempo de contato de 150 mim mostraram que a massa de 2 g de CAG em 100mL de solução apresentou os menores valores de concentração residual. Para determinar o tempo de contato mais apropriado, utilizou-se solução de mesma concentração anterior em pH 6 e 2 g de CAG. O tempo de contato determinado foi de 270 min. Após, variou-se a concentração inicial de VC em 100 mL de solução em pH 6, o tempo de contato utilizado foi de 330 min para garantir o equilíbrio e 2 g de CAG. Com esses dados, ajustou-os as isotermas de Langmuir e Freundlich. A que melhor descreveu os dados experimentais foi a isoterma de Freundlich. Com base na pesquisa realizada pode-se concluir que o processo proposto apresenta viabilidade técnica para aplicação do processo de adsorção na remoção do corante VC de efluentes têxteis, contribuindo para o avanço nos estudos da área. ...
