| pt_BR |
dc.description.abstract | This paper presents the geometric optimization of a solar thermal energy storage system. The storage system is studied as an arrangement of flat plates of AISI 304 steel, used as the storage material. Heated air flows within the steel plates, starting the heat transfer process, which is modeled using the global capacitance method. The modeling equations define two parameters that represent the geometry of the system: one related to the surface area of the plates and the other with the volume occupied by the plates. These parameters are optimized through stochastic algorithm GEO (Generalized Extremal Optimization), aiming to reduce the temperature difference between the output fluid temperature and the reference output temperature. The results obtained are compared with those obtained by other authors using different optimization methods. The GEO method obtained results about 50 times faster and with values 6.5% better, requiring little computational time and resulting in optimal values within the first iterations. Thus, the conclusion is that the stochastic algorithm is a good alternative to solve thermal storage problems, and it can be used in the future for more complex problems in the area. | en |
