As religiões afro-riograndenses na visão de dez agentes religiosos que já partiram

Abstract

O texto explora o conteúdo de dez entrevistas concedidas ao autor nas décadas de 1980 e 1990 por oito pais e duas mães-desanto do Batuque de Porto Alegre que hoje já não se encontram mais entre nós. Ver-se-á, inicialmente, que os mesmos destacavam o seu forte vínculo às linhagens religiosas e à ancestralidade do Batuque. Na sequência serão analisados alguns tópicos das religiões afro-rio-grandenses em relação aos quais eles se mostravam bastante críticos. Enfim, serão destacadas as expectativas em relação ao futuro das religiões afro-rio-grandenses. Neste caso, uns se mostravam mais otimistas e outros mais pessimistas, não havendo, portanto, uma homogeneidade de considerações sobre esta questão.

The article approaches the content of ten interviews conducted by the author during the 1980’s and 1990’s, with eight fathers-of-saint and two mothers-of-saint from Porto Alegre’s Batuque, who are no longer among us. It will show, firstly, how they had a remarkably strong attachment to religious lineages and the Batuque ancestry. It will then turn to some issues prevalent in African-Riograndense religions, in relation to which the interviewees were highly critical. Finally, the article will underscore their expectations concerning the future of African-Riograndense religions. In this respect, there was no homogeneity: while some of the interviewees were optimistic, others were more pessimistic.
