We live in the same land, we share many similarities, but we human animals still deny our animal equality. Reason, conscience and species were employed to forward a vision that deflected us from non-human animals, which legitimised its use without questioning their right of life. However, human voices rose in their defence, in our own defence, searching for a social construction which does not segregate the different, does not exclude the right of life of any living being under false concepts coined in intellectual and emotional prejudice. As we can no longer deny the interdependence of living beings and respect for all forms of life, this project is legitimised. Art invites us, through images, to rethink ways of being and of acting in this world, it instigates us to notice the other in ways not thought of before, proposing that we put old prejudices aside. This theoretical study was coordinated with teaching practice in art education, being applied in two estate schools in Rio Grande do Sul, one class of 1st year primary school and another of 1st year secondary school. The aim was to problematise these characteristics of art, combining the experience, making, appreciation and contextualisation of art, within teaching, so that it becomes a place of subjective transformations where students can rethink and recreate their relation and vision of non-human animals, from an ethical, affectionate and empathic position, deconstructing the prejudices that deflect them from an animal identity.en
