O Saara como uma nova fronteira para o terrorismo

Abstract

O presente trabalho busca compreender as razões para a identificação do Deserto do Saara como nova fronteira para o terrorismo. Governos de importantes países, a grande mídia e parte da literatura das relações internacionais têm indicado o aumento das atividades militares estatais e não-estatais no Norte da África, em especial no Saara, com o estabelecimento de bases para atividades terroristas. O presente trabalho se justifica, assim, pela importância da tentativa do esclarecimento do que vêm acontecendo no Norte da África e suas implicações para o estudo das relações internacionais. Para verificar tal correspondência, num primeiro momento, é necessário expor o debate sobre a delimitação do conceito de terrorismo e uma revisão de seu processo histórico contemporâneo. A partir desta discussão deve se trabalhar elementos internos e externos a região do Saara, que contribuam para a explicação do fenômeno problematizado em si, bem como de sua identificação com o terrorismo. O cruzamento destas revisões bibliográficas permitirá responder ao problema central deste trabalho, por meio de descrição densa do debate na literatura.

This study aims to understand the reasons for the identification of the Sahara Desert as a new frontier for terrorism Governments of important countries, the mainstream media and part of the of the International Relations scholars have interpreted the augment of state and non-state military activities in North Africa, especially in the Sahara, as the establishment of bases for terrorist activities. Hence the present work is justified by the relevance of trying to clarify the conjuncture in North Africa and its implications for the study of International Relations. To verify such a correspondence, at first, it is necessary to expose the debate on the definition of the concept of terrorism and review his contemporary historical process. From this discussion, it will be analyzed internal and external elements of the Sahara region, which contribute to the explanation of the questioned phenomenon itself as well as his identification with terrorism. The intersection of these literature reviews would address the central issue of this work, through thick description of the debate in the literature.
