Abstract
The purpose of this work was to conduct an exploratory study on the learning process of some basic concepts of Newtonian dynamics, through computational modeling activities using the AVM diagram (Adaptation of the Gowin’s V diagram to Computational Modeling). The purpose of this work was to conduct an exploratory study on the learning process of some basic concepts of Newtonian dynamics, through computational modeling activities using the AVM diagram (Adaptation of the Gowin’s V diagram to Computational Modeling). The theoretical framework is based on Ausubel’s meaningful learning theory, on Halloun’s schematic modeling and on the computational modeling with AVM diagram. The results of this research indicate a satisfactory performance of students in conducting these activities, which is translated not only into a great contribution for learning concepts of Newtonian dynamics, but also in the positive influence of the computational modeling on the students’ predisposition to learn physical concepts. Such activities were implemented in an initial course of physics enrolled by 23 students (prospective teachers) of the Natural Sciences and Environmental Education of the University of Antioquia, Colombia. ...
