A evolução do conceito de fachada : do renascimento ao modernismo

Abstract

O artigo a seguir faz ao mesmo tempo uma revisão e uma reflexão sobre o conceito de “fachada”, particularmente no âmbito da casa unifamiliar, considerando sua evolução ao longo da história da arquitetura. Tem origem na tese de doutorado intitulada As fachadas da casa moderna, defendida pela autora em 2011, que tinha por objeto o estudo sistemático da fachada da casa unifamiliar moderna no período 1915-1960. Desde o Renascimento Italiano, quando surge associado à casa unifamiliar, passando pelo Barroco Francês e pelo Pitoresco Inglês, até o advento da Arquitetura Moderna, o conceito de fachada sofreu modificações consideráveis, que repercutiram diretamente na prática de projeto. Tais modificações, entretanto, não são abordadas de forma ordenada e sistemática pela literatura arquitetônica. O texto procura discutir o conceito de fachada, discorrendo sobre suas origens, suas transformações e seu desenvolvimento, do século XV até meados do século XX. Lança, por fim, um breve olhar sobre a ideia de fachada, do modernismo até os dias atuais.

This article simultaneously engages in a review of and reflection regarding the concept of “façade”, particularly as it refers to single family houses, considering its evolution in the history of architecture. It originates from the doctoral thesis entitled As fachadas da casa moderna [Façades of the Modern House], defended by the author in 2011, which engaged in a systematic study of the façades of modern single family houses from 1915 to 1960. Since the Italian Renaissance, when it appeared associated to the single family house, through the French Baroque and English Picturesque periods, until the advent of Modern Architecture, the concept of façade has undergone considerable modifications that have had direct repercussions on architectural practice. Nevertheless, these modifications have not been dealt with in an orderly or systematic way by architectural literature. This text seeks to discuss the concept of façade, describing its origins, transformations and development from the 15th century to the middle of the 20th century. Finally, it takes a brief look at the idea of façade, from modernism to the present day.
