Triagem em emergência veterinária

Abstract

A triagem em emergência é um método que possibilita tanto a priorização de pacientes graves, permitindo um melhor cuidado aos mesmos, quanto uma ferramenta para organização de uma emergência, facilitando o fluxo de pacientes. Na medicina veterinária é possível perceber uma deficiência em sistemas de triagem, tanto em propostas quanto na validação, e a pouca atenção que se dá ao assunto nos estabelecimentos veterinários. A triagem geralmente é realizada empiricamente, priorizando apenas risco de vida aparente. Neste trabalho buscou-se ressaltar a importância de um sistema de triagem veterinária, principalmente pelo mercado crescente em serviços veterinários e aumento da população de animais de estimação. Este trabalho constitui-se de uma revisão de literatura com buscas referentes à triagem veterinária e humana nas bases de dados ISI Web of Knowledge, PubMed e SCOPUS que possam servir de incentivo à busca de um sistema de triagem confiável e validado em medicina veterinária. Com a revisão de literatura foi possível encontrar dois trabalhos significativos sobre sistemas de triagem veterinária. Ambos baseados em sistemas de cinco níveis usados em departamentos de triagem humanos. O primeiro referente à criação de uma lista de triagem veterinária (Veterinary Triage List) baseada no sistema Manchester Triage Scale e o segundo sobre a implantação de um sistema de triagem para uso em estabelecimentos veterinários baseado no Emergency Severity Index, mas que ainda não possui validação. Ambos os trabalhos não foram definitivos, mas, a partir deles, é possível perceber a dinâmica no desenvolvimento de um sistema de triagem veterinário, que realmente há uma falta de sistemas de triagem validados e os possíveis benefícios no uso das experiências obtidas em sistemas de triagem para humanos.

Triage in emergency is a method that allows both the prioritization of critically ill patients, allowing better care of them, and as a tool for organizing an emergency, facilitating the flow of patients. In veterinary medicine it is possible to realize a deficiency in triage systems, both proposals as validation, and little attention given to the subject in veterinary establishments. Triage is usually performed empirically, focusing only apparent life-threatening. In this study we sought to emphasize the importance of veterinary triage, particularly for a growing market of veterinary services and increasing population of pets. This paper presents a review of literature and a research on veterinary and human triage in ISI of Knowledge, PubMed and SCOPUS databases that can serve as an incentive to the search for triage system reliable and valid in veterinary medicine. With the revision of literature was possible to find two significant works on systems veterinary triage. Both systems based on five levels used in human triage departments. The first refers to the creation of a list of veterinary triage (Veterinary Triage List) based in Manchester Triage System Scale and the second on the implementation of a triage system for use in Emergency veterinary facilities based on the Severity Index, that is not yet validated. Both studies were not definitive, but from them, is possible to understand the dynamics on the development of a veterinarian triage system, the lack of validated triage systems and the possible benefits in using the experiences gained in human triage system.
