Uma história do esporte de orientação no Rio Grande do Sul

Abstract

A pesquisa trata do esporte de Orientação, prática que conheci no ano de 2012, em uma festinha infantil de Escoteiros. Neste mesmo ano foi oferecida pela UFRGS uma disciplina nomeada Desporto de Orientação, ministrada pelo professor José Otávio Franco Dornelles em Tópicos Especiais em Educação Física II. O meu interesse fez com que eu fizesse uma busca sobre o tema e percebi que há uma carência de livros, artigos e outros materiais históricos sobre a Orientação. Foi a partir desta busca, que decidi aprofundar-me no tema, devido à falta reunião deste material histórico sobre o esporte e além de julgar ser importante o conhecimento da história, para que as pessoas passem a ter mais interesse pela prática, fazendo com que ela seja cada vez mais disseminada entre o público em geral e entre os profissionais de Educação Física. Diante disso, o objetivo deste estudo é reconstruir a história do Esporte de Orientação no Rio Grande do Sul, desde suas primeiras manifestações até o ano de 2012, ano em que o Campeonato Gaúcho de Orientação completou 20 anos de existência. Esta é uma investigação de cunho qualitativo que se caracteriza como histórico documental por ser utilizada a interpretação e análise de fontes impressas, orais e imagéticas. A revisão bibliográfica sobre o assunto buscou apresentar os diferentes conceitos sobre a Orientação, exibindo suas principais características e as modalidades competitivas que compõe a prática. A retomada histórica sobre a Orientação mostra seu desenvolvimento nos países nórdicos, e sua chegada ao Brasil mais de meio século após, pela iniciativa dos militares. Da mesma forma a Orientação foi introduzida no Rio Grande do Sul, onde a prática é intensa. Nesta região surgiram campeonatos de Orientação, foram fundados clubes, e a sede da primeira federação estadual do esporte no Brasil. Posteriormente, houve a fundação da Confederação Brasileira de Orientação com a participação de nomes representativos da Orientação como José Otávio Franco Dornelles, César Valmor Cordeiro, professor Higino Esteves e professor Leduc Fauth. O professor Leduc Fauth incluiu o esporte no sistema educacional em algumas escolas municipais de Cachoeira do Sul. O desenvolvimento da Orientação no Rio Grande do Sul deve-se, também, a participação de seus representantes em eventos internacionais, que trouxeram informações imprescindíveis para o futuro deste esporte no Brasil e no Rio Grande do Sul.

The research deals with sport orientation, a practice that I was introduced to in 2012 in a Scout party and that, in the very same year, was offered by UFRGS: discipline Sport Orientation taught by Professor José Octavio Franco Dornelles and offered in Special Topics in Physical Education II. My interest led me to do a search on the subject and I realized that there is a shortage of books, articles and other historical materials on Orientation. So I decided to delve into the topic due to the lack of historical material about it, once it is important to know the history, so that people will have more interest in the practice, causing it to be increasingly widespread among the general public and between Physical Education professionals. The aim of this study is to reconstruct the history of Sport Orientation in Rio Grande do Sul from the earliest manifestations of the practice until the year of 2012, the year that the Gaucho Orientation Championship completes 20 years of existence. This is a qualitative research and it is characterized as a historical documental paper once it is based on the interpretation and analysis of printed, oral sources and imagery. The literature review on the subject sought to present the different concepts of Orientation, showing its main features and the competitive modes that comprise the practice. The historical resumption of the Orientation shows its development in the Nordic countries and its arrival in Brazil more than half a century later by the initiative of the military. Likewise, the Orientation was introduced in Rio Grande do Sul where the practice is intense. In this region Orientation championships emerged, clubs and the headquarter of the first state federation of the sport in Brazil were founded. Later there was the foundation of the Brazilian confederation of Orientation attended by representative names such as José Otávio Franco Dornelles, César Valmor Cordeiro, professor Higino Esteves and Professor Leduc Fauth. Professor Leduc Fauth included the sport in the educational system in some schools of Cachoeira do Sul. The development of the Orientation in Rio Grande do Sul also occurred due to the participation of its representatives in international events, which brought vital information for the future of this sport in Brazil and in Rio Grande do Sul.
