Cine Guarani de Sobradinho : cinquenta anos de história sob a ótica do exibidor

Abstract

Esta monografia tem como objetivo central sistematizar a história do Cine Guarani, a única sala de cinema de Sobradinho, RS, que existiu de 1948 a 1998, a partir da ótica e dos documentos do agente exibidor. Para responder à pergunta central “o que motivou o fechamento do Cine Guarani?”, foi preciso realizar uma pesquisa bibliográfica sobre as características do mercado cinematográfico dentro da história do cinema, enfatizando, principalmente o setor da exibição no Rio Grande do Sul e no Brasil. A investigação empregou técnicas metodológicas de naturezas distintas, como a entrevista em profundidade, com o principal responsável pela sala de exibição na cidade, e a análise documental, com a tabulação do principal registro do espaço, uma caderneta onde foram anotados à mão todos os filmes projetados na tela do cinema sobradinhense. Esta pesquisa deteve-se na análise dos anos de 1948, 1958, 1968, 1978, 1988 e 1998, buscando contemplar toda a trajetória de movimentação do cinema. Confrontando a bibliografia com o corpus analisado, foi possível perceber similaridades entre as causas que levaram ao fechamento de salas de rua no estado e ao encerramento de atividades do Cine Guarani. Entre os principais motivos elencados, destacam-se determinadas políticas cinematográficas que obrigavam a exibição de filmes nacionais, muitas vezes, em más condições e de péssima qualidade; a inserção de aparelhos televisivos e, mais tarde, do videocassete no cotidiano dos brasileiros; as altas taxas de manutenção das salas de cinema; além da falta de incentivo governamental ao setor de exibição e os períodos históricos de alta inflação no país.

The main focus of this monograph is to organize the history of Cine Guarani, the only film exhibition room in Sobradinho, Rio Grande do Sul, which was in operation from 1948 to 1998, through the point of view and documents of the exhibitor agent. To answer the main question “what motivated the shutdown of Cine Guarani?”, it was necessary to perform a bibliographic research about the characteristics of the film market within the history of movies itself, emphasizing, chiefly, the exhibition industry in Rio Grande do Sul and in Brazil. The investigation employed methodological techniques of distinct natures, like in-depth interview, with the primary responsible for the exhibition room in town, and the documentary analysis, with the data formatting of the room’s main record, a notebook in which it was noted by hand every movie that was projected on the screen of Sobradinho’s movie theater. This research was restrained to the analysis of data from the years 1948, 1968, 1978, 1988 and 1998, pursuing to compass the whole course of actions of the movie theater. Comparing the bibliography to the analyzed corpus, it was possible to perceive similarities between the causes that led to the extinction of the exhibition rooms in the state and the closing of Cine Guarani. Among the main reasons listed, it can be highlighted certain film policies which imposed the exhibition of national movies, not seldom, in bad conditions and of low quality; the introduction of television sets and, later on, VCRs in the daily life of Brazilians; the high maintenance fees of the exhibition rooms; plus the lack of government incentives to the exhibition industry and the historic periods of high inflation in the country.
