A natação em Porto Alegre : do rio Guaíba às piscinas dos clubes

Abstract

O presente estudo tem como objetivo investigar como se configurou a natação em Porto Alegre, desde os primeiros indícios dessa prática no final do século XIX, até a construção das piscinas nos clubes em meados do século XX. Para isso, foram utilizadas fontes impressas, como o Almanaque Esportivo do Rio Grande do Sul, e o Almanaque dos Desportos, ambos se encontram no Acervo da Biblioteca da Escola de Educação Física da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (ESEF/UFRGS), além de imagens oriundas destas fontes. As informações obtidas da coleta de dados foram submetidas à análise documental, conforme Pimentel (2001). De acordo com as fontes consultadas, a natação surge no Rio Grande do Sul, no final do século XIX, sendo Porto Alegre a principal cidade, onde ocorreu o desenvolvimento da prática nos clubes. O marco principal que se tem para o surgimento da natação em Porto Alegre foi a construção da primeira piscina do Estado, e do país, em 1885, pelo Turnerbund, a atual “Sociedade Ginástica de Porto Alegre, 1867”, cuja sigla é SOGIPA. O ápice da prática da natação na cidade parece ter ocorrido em meados do século XX, culminando com a construção da primeira piscina térmica do Estado e do sul do país pelo Grêmio Náutico União em 1963. A pesquisa também evidencia que a participação das mulheres na natação gaúcha foi de grande importância para o avanço da prática, através de atletas que ecoaram seus nomes no cenário da natação nacional e internacional, contribuindo dessa forma para o avanço da natação no Estado.

The present study aims to investigate how to set up swimming in Porto Alegre, from the earliest evidence of the practice in the late nineteenth century until the construction of the swimming clubs in the mid-twentieth century. For this, we used printed sources such as the Sports Almanac of Rio Grande do Sul, and Sports Almanac, both are in the Collection of the Library of the School of Physical Education, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (ESEF/UFRGS), plus images from such sources. Information obtained from the data collection were analyzed documentary, as Pimentel (2001). According to the sources consulted, swimming arises in Rio Grande do Sul, in the late nineteenth century, Porto Alegre is the main town, where there was the development of the practice in the clubs. The main landmark that has been the emergence of swimming in Porto Alegre was the construction of the first pool of the state and the country, in 1885, by Turnerbund, the current "Gymnastics Society of Porto Alegre, 1867", whose acronym is SOGIPA. The apex of the sport of swimming in the city seems to have occurred in the mid-twentieth century, culminating in the construction of the first thermal pool state and the south by Gremio Nautico Union in 1963. The research also shows that women's participation in swimming state was of great importance to the advancement of the practice, by athletes who echoed their names in the scene of national and international swimming, thereby contributing to the advancement of swimming in the state.
