Efeito da estocagem sobre a germinação de Mimosa bimucronata (DC.) OK. e Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) de Wit

Abstract

Seeds of M. bimucronata and L. leucocephala were stored under different conditions: 1. At low temperature (+- 5ºC), with low humidity or in moist sand; 2. At laboraitory, with relative humidity controlled or not. The germination behaviour was checked after one year in such conditions, and the results compared with recently harvested seeds. M. bimucronata is not affected in its germinability by these different ways of storage, but the low humidity significantly depresses the imbibition of seeds. Stratification of seeds of L. leucocephala depresses the imbibition as well, and this does not occur in the other treatments. But germination decreases in seeds stored at environmental temperature with or without controlled humidity, and in those stored at low temperature, suggesting secondary dormancy.

Sementes de M. bimucronata e L. leucocephala foram estocadas em diferentes condições: 1. A frio (+- 5ºC) com umidade retiva baixa ou em areia úmida; 2. Em laboratório, com umidade retiva controlada ou não controlada. O comportamento germinativo foi verificado após um ano em tais condições, e os resultados comparados com sementes recém-colhidas. M. bimucronata não é afetada em sua germinação por estes diferente modos de estocagem, porém a baixa umidade deprime significativamente a embebição. A estratificação deprime a embebição em sementes de L. leucocephala, mas não a germinação, o que não ocorre nos outros tratamentos a que elas foram submetidas. Porém, a germinação é significativamente menor nos outros tratamentos, sugerindo uma dormência secundária.
