A escolha pelo basquete : um relato de experiência sobre cultura, juventude e pertencimento na escola

Abstract

Este trabalho apresenta um relato de experiência com enfoque crítico, étnico-racial e pedagógico, fundamentado na trajetória do autor como professor de Educação Física e técnico de basquete em uma escola privada da zona norte de Porto Alegre. O estudo teve como objetivo compreender os fatores que influenciam estudantes do Ensino Médio, majoritariamente autodeclarados não negros, a optarem pelo basquete como atividade extracurricular, mesmo em um contexto marcado pelo predomínio do futebol e pela redução da carga horária da Educação Física no Novo Ensino Médio. A metodologia adotada baseou-se na escuta sensível e na observação participante ao longo de dois anos de trabalho com a equipe de basquete da escola, combinando registros pedagógicos, rodas de conversa informais e análise das práticas culturais juvenis expressas pelos alunos. A investigação revelou que a escolha pelo basquete está atravessada por elementos como a influência da cultura hip-hop, a representatividade midiática de atletas da NBA, o estilo estético e simbólico associado à modalidade, bem como a relação afetiva construída entre os estudantes e o professor. Também foi possível identificar tensões raciais implícitas, uma vez que a prática de um esporte de origem negra ocorre em um ambiente predominantemente branco, gerando reflexões sobre apropriação cultural, identidade e pertencimento. O estudo conclui que o basquete, no contexto investigado, ultrapassa sua dimensão técnica e torna-se linguagem de expressão juvenil, espaço de convivência e construção simbólica. Destaca-se a importância de práticas pedagógicas que considerem a escuta ativa, a valorização das culturas juvenis e o enfrentamento das desigualdades raciais no cotidiano escolar.

This paper presents an experience report with a critical, ethno-racial, and pedagogical focus, based on the author's trajectory as a Physical Education teacher and basketball coach at a private school in the northern part of Porto Alegre. The study aimed to understand the factors influencing high school students, predominantly self-declared non-Black, to choose basketball as an extracurricular activity, even in a context marked by the prevalence of soccer and the reduced Physical Education workload in the New High School curriculum. The methodology adopted was based on sensitive listening and participant observation over two years of work with the school's basketball team, combining pedagogical records, informal discussion groups, and analysis of youth cultural practices expressed by the students. The investigation revealed that the choice of basketball is influenced by elements such as the impact of hip-hop culture, the media representation of NBA athletes, the aesthetic and symbolic style associated with the sport, as well as the affective relationship built between the students and the teacher. It was also possible to identify implicit racial tensions, given that the practice of a sport of Black origin occurs in a predominantly white environment, leading to reflections on cultural appropriation, identity, and belonging. The study concludes that basketball, in the investigated context, transcends its technical dimension and becomes a language of youth expression, a space for social interaction, and symbolic construction. The importance of pedagogical practices that consider active listening, valuing youth cultures, and confronting racial inequalities in daily school life is highlighted.
