As paisagens de Paulo Gomes

Abstract

Este artigo tratará de parte da produção do artista e professor Paulo Gomes (Nova Iguaçu, RJ, 1956), que vive e trabalha em Porto Alegre. Analisaremos uma gravura da série intitulada “Paisagens”, produzida entre 2001 e 2003. Para criar esta série ele se apropriou de textos que descrevem paisagens do Rio Grande do Sul, elaborados por autores locais ou escritores-viajantes do século XIX. Ao transportar esses textos, obedecendo a algumas regras formais, ele nos remete, ao mesmo tempo, para a gravura dos séculos XVI a XIX e para a arte conceitual. Neste artigo comentaremos uma destas gravuras, intitulada “Entre a embocadura do rio Araringuá,” que exemplifica bem o conjunto.

his article will deal with some production of the artist and teacher Paulo Gomes (Nova Iguaçu, RJ, 1956), who lives and works in Porto Alegre. We will look at one picture of the series entitled “Landscapes”, produced between 2001 and 2003. To create this series he has appropriated texts that describe landscapes of Rio Grande do Sul, by local authors or writers-travelers of the nineteenth century. When retrieving these texts, according to some formal rules, he connects pictures from the sixteenth to nineteenth and the conceptual art. In this article we will comment on one of these prints, entitled “Between the mouth of the river Araringuá,” which exemplifies the set.
