Indexação em bibliotecas jurídicas : um estudo exploratório

Abstract

Analisa o processo de representação da informação nas bibliotecas jurídicas. Pesquisa exploratória realizada com 32 bibliotecários que atuam em bibliotecas jurídicas de Porto Alegre – RS, um grupo considerado típico, em função das características que possuem em comum. O trabalho, de abordagem quantitativa, foi dividido em duas partes. A primeira parte consiste de uma revisão bibliográfica que aborda os conceitos pertinentes a pesquisa, e as relações que se estabelecem entre eles. Na segunda parte é aplicado um questionário estruturado com vinte perguntas abertas e fechadas, agrupadas na análise conforme os objetivos propostos. A pesquisa verifica o perfil dos bibliotecários quanto à formação e tempo de atividade como indexador. Também, identifica as características da representação da informação nas bibliotecas pesquisadas, analisa os instrumentos usados neste processo, e os fatores que o influenciam. Constata que a representação da informação nas bibliotecas jurídicas pesquisadas é realizada por bibliotecários com um tempo de experiência entre 5 e 10 anos, e que em geral não têm buscado atualização através da educação continuada. Observa que estas bibliotecas possuem política de indexação formalizada, mas sem previsão de atualização. Verifica que o processo de indexação se caracteriza por uma grande exaustividade e alta especificidade, e que nesta atividade são utilizados, além do vocabulário da própria biblioteca, tesauros de outras instituições. Relata que o documento indexado com prioridade é o livro que contém doutrina, e nele são examinados com prioridade o sumário, o título, o subtítulo e o resumo. Relata que uma das dificuldades apontadas pelos bibliotecários é a leitura do documento, em função da falta de conhecimento da área jurídica e da linguagem do usuário, o que é uma contradição em relação ao tempo de atividade observado. A deficiência de recursos humanos é outro item apontado como fator negativo para a realização da indexação. Estaca-se nesta pesquisa a necessidade de registro e atualização da política de indexação.

It analyzes the representation of information in law libraries. A exploratory research was conducted with 32 librarians who work in law libraries in Porto Alegre - RS, a group considered typical, depending on the characteristics they have in common. The study of -quantitative approach was divided into two parts. The first part consists of a literature review that discusses the concepts relevant to the research, and the relations established between them. In the second part is applied a structured questionnaire with twenty open and closed questions, grouped according to the analysis goals. The study assesses the profile of librarians in their academic formation and activity time as the indexing. It also identifies the characteristics of the representation of information in libraries surveyed, examines the instruments used in this process, and factors that influence it. Notes that the representation of information in law libraries surveyed is performed by librarians with a time of experience between 5 and 10 years and have generally not tried to update themselves through continued education. It also notes that these libraries have a formalized policy of indexing, but have no plans for upgrade. It observes that the indexing process is characterized by a thorough and high specificity, and that these activities are used in addition to the library's own vocabulary and thesauri of other institutions. It reports that the document indexed with priority is the book that contains doctrine, and in it the summary, title, subtitle and summary are examined as a priority. One of the difficulties by librarians is the reading of the document, due to lack of knowledge of legal and user language, which is a contradiction in relation to the activity time observed. Deficiency of human resources is another item identified as a negative factor for the realization of indexation. Stake in this research is the need for registration and updating the indexing policy.
