Abstract in Portuguese (Brasil)
Abstract
The aim of this study was to compare the amplitude of the electromyographic signal (EMG) and force production during maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVC) in water and on dry land. Furthermore, the reproducibility of EMG signal and isometric force measurements between water and dry land environments was also assessed. Nine women (22.89 ± 1.76 years) performed MVC for elbow flexion (EFL), elbow extension (EEX), hip flexion (HFL) and hip extension (HEX) against identical fixed resistance ...
Nine women (22.89 ± 1.76 years) performed MVC for elbow flexion (EFL), elbow extension (EEX), hip flexion (HFL) and hip extension (HEX) against identical fixed resistance in both environments. The record of the EMG signal from Biceps Brachii (BB), Triceps Brachii (TB), Rectus Femoris (RF) and Biceps Femoris (BF) was recorded with a four-channel system (MIOTOOL 400, MIOTEC) and strength of EFL, EEX, HFL and HEX was measured by a load cell (ZX250, ALFA). Insulation was used on the surface electrodes in both protocols. For statistical analysis was used descriptive statistic, the Shapiro-Wilk’s Test, Paired T-Test and Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC), with a = 0.05 (SPSS version 15.0). The results of this study demonstrated that the EMG signal and force showed no significant differences between environments, except for HEX (p = 0.035). Moreover, ICC values were significant and ranged from moderate to high (0.66 - 0.96) for EMG signal and force production between environments. Thus, can conclude that the environment did not influence the EMG signal and force production during MVC. ...
