Ler o arquivo em análise de discurso : observações sobre o alienismo brasileiro

Abstract

Este artigo busca investigar de que maneira o alienismo brasileiro se constitui em estreita relação com as teorias raciais, com a memória antiafricana e com novas formas de organização do direito e do espaço urbano no século XIX. Ancorado teoricamente na Análise de Discurso materialista, o texto busca dar visibilidade aos processos históricos da produção do sentido, montando um arquivo que permita escutar a conjuntura discursiva do Brasil oitocentista. O presente estudo permite, pois, uma compreensão semântica de contradições sociais e de relações de sentido a partir da montagem e da leitura de um arquivo singular, que abre espaço para a formulação de um dispositivo distinto do historiográfico, pondo em primeiro plano o funcionamento material, ou seja, histórico, da língua.

This article investigates how Brazilian alienism was constituted in alignment with theories of race, anti-African memory, and the introduction of new ways of organizing the law and urban space in the 19th century. Anchored theoretically in materialist discourse analysis, the text shines light on the historical processes of meaning production by assembling an archive that enables us to hear the prevailing discourses in 19th century Brazil. This study therefore allows a semantic comprehension of social contradictions and meaning relationships to be built up by assembling and reading aunique archive that makes room for the formulation of a distinct theoretical device of historiography, prioritizing the material functioning –i.e., the historical functioning –of language.
