A situação das mulheres na sociedade santomense : discriminações de gênero e a participação feminina na esfera produtiva

Abstract

O presente trabalho trata das discriminações de gênero em São Tomé e Príncipe, direcionando a atenção a problemas relacionados à situação das mulheres como os da participação política e da violência, enfatizando a inserção feminina no mercado de trabalho. O objetivo da monografia é dimensionar a realidade das santomenses com vistas a encontrar elementos e subsídios capazes de contribuir para o aumento da participação da mulher na sociedade e, em decorrência, para reduzir a desigualdade social e de gênero. A maior participação das mulheres na vida social e a sua maior inclusão na economia e na política é importante pelas modificações que pode produzir na classe feminina e, também, pela potencialidade de propiciar mudanças culturais. Assim, este estudo pretende chamar a atenção para o papel e a dignidade da mulher. A pesquisa, de abordagem quantitativa e cunho exploratório, congregou dados e documentos impressos e digitais da Assembléia Nacional e do Centro de Acolhimento Contra as Vítimas da Violência Doméstica, entre outras instituições. O estudo empírico forneceu elementos importantes sobre a realidade e a participação da mulher na sociedade santomense. Os resultados do estudo permitiram identificar avanços na situação das santomenses. Apesar disso, constata-se que elas ainda não ocupam seu real espaço nessa sociedade, o que sugere a necessidade da modificação de padrões culturais que sustentam a manutenção dos papéis tradicionais, tanto do homem como da mulher, na família e na sociedade. Sugere, também, a necessidade da incidência de instâncias e autoridades governamentais na melhoria das políticas sociais públicas de forma a combater a violência doméstica, permitir a inserção econômica das mulheres, a sua inclusão em aparatos hierárquicos e decisórios e possibilitar a equidade de gênero.

The present work deals with gender discrimination in Sao Tome and Principe, directing attention to problems related to the situation of women and political participation and violence, emphasizing the participation of women in the labor market. The objective of the monograph is to scale the reality of São Tomé and Principe in order to find elements and subsidies that contribute to the increased participation of women in society and, consequently, to reduce social inequality and gender too. The increased participation of women in social life and greater inclusion in the economy and politics are important for modifications that can produce in female class and also the capability of providing cultural changes. This study aims to draw attention to the role and dignity of women. This quantitative approach to research and exploratory, gathers data and paper and digital data of the National Assembly and the Welcome Center Against Victims of Domestic Violence, among other institutions. The empirical study has provided important evidence about the existence and participation of women in Saotome society. The results of the study identified improvements in the Saotome situation. Nevertheless, it appears that they still don´t occupy their real space in this society, which suggests the need for modification of cultural patterns that support the maintenance of the traditional roles of both the man and the woman in the family and society. Also suggests the need for the incidence of bodies and government authorities in improving public social policies in order to combat domestic violence, to allow the women economic inclusion, their inclusion in decision-making apparatus and enable hierarchical and gender equity.
