Based on the concept of social representations of Serge Moscovi, Denise Jodelet and Sandra Jovchelovitch and hybrid cultures of García-Canclini, the paper examines how the forró electronic industry from the city of Fortaleza (CE) appropriates social repre-sentations of performance and lifestyles that anchor the identity construction of the forró artists in the present days. Representations of a forró person presented by this audiovisual production are grounded on the ideas and lifestyles that lead to patterns of social behavior and consumption of what is meant to be “modern” and “sophisticated”, strengthening a type of cultural imaginary associated with recent giddy industrial and urban growth that Fortaleza has experienced in the last decades. ...
