Terapia assistida por animais em estudantes universitários : estudo piloto de ensaio clínico randomizado

INTRODUÇÃO: Tanto o estresse físico quanto o emocional são endêmicos em estudantes de graduação e têm sido associados a uma série de resultados negativos na saúde e no desempenho acadêmico, sendo o estresse a barreira mais comumente relatada para o sucesso acadêmico dos estudantes. A interação com animais terapeutas pode diminuir a ansiedade e a excitação do sistema nervoso simpático e a resposta ao estresse, além de proporcionar uma sensação de bem-estar e prazer. OBJETIVOS: Avaliar se estudantes universitários tendem a ter melhora dos sintomas de ansiedade, depressão, estresse e fadiga quando submetidos a terapia assistida por animal e comparar em relação aos exercícios de relaxamento. MÉTODOS: Estudo piloto de ensaio clínico com 26 graduandos, divididos em grupos de até 9 estudantes. Os grupos foram alocados aleatoriamente em uma das duas intervenções (TAA ou exercícios de relaxamento). Cada grupo foi submetido a uma das terapias. Antes da sessão e depois da sessão, cada participante respondeu dois instrumentos (DASS 21 e Questionário de Fadiga de Yoshitake). Os questionários são autoaplicáveis. RESULTADOS: Após intervenção, houve redução do estresse e da fadiga, tanto no grupo intervenção como no grupo controle; e redução da ansiedade e da depressão no grupo intervenção (P<0,001). As medidas de depressão (P=0,012) e fadiga (P=0,001) apresentaram comportamento diferente entre os grupos, ao longo do tempo. DISCUSSÃO: A intervenção assistida por animais teve resultados melhores na diminuição das variáveis estudadas (estresse, depressão, ansiedade e fadiga). Nas variáveis ansiedade e estresse, ambos os grupos apresentaram diferença significativa pré e pós intervenção; entretanto, os resultados do grupo intervenção foram superiores. Já nas variáveis depressão e fadiga, apenas o grupo de terapia assistida por animais apresentou diferença estatisticamente significativa. ...
