Uma das principais modificações provocadas pelo homem em ambientes aquáticos resulta na eutrofização, que é causada geralmente pelo aporte excessivo de nutrientes. Uma das principais modificações provocadas pelo homem em ambientes aquáticos resulta na eutrofização, que é causada geralmente pelo aporte excessivo de nutrientes. Diversos estudos vêm sendo desenvolvidos para o controle do crescimento intenso de algumas espécies de algas planctônicas, sobretudo cianobactérias, e a remoção de fósforo tem sido o principal foco para restauração ambiental de ecossistemas aquáticos. Este trabalho testou uma nova alternativa para remoção do fósforo solúvel reativo (PSR), a fim de verificar sua eficácia na recuperação da qualidade de água do Lago do Minizoológico (Ceclimar), localizado no sul do Brasil. Na tentativa de reverter a eutrofização, foi testada a argila modificada Phoslock® em uma dose de 125 kg, visando atenuar a concentração de PSR e diminuir a biomassa de cianobactérias. O PSR diminuiu aproximadamente 50% nas primeiras duas horas após a aplicação da argila, com queda de 84,2% após 30 dias. Após 12 meses ainda não foram registradas concentrações de PSR semelhante aos valores iniciais (0,86 mg.L-1 ). A dominância de cianobactérias no sistema foi representada pelos gêneros Microcystis, Sphaerocavum e Anabaena. Dois eventos de florações de cianobactérias foram observados durante o estudo, no inverno de 2009, antes da aplicação do produto, e outro no verão de 2010, após a adição. O primeiro evento esteve relacionado com altas concentrações de PSR, enquanto que o segundo, com altas temperaturas. Com a aplicação do Phoslock® foi constatada a diminuição do PSR, e consequentemente, da biomassa de cianobactérias. No final do inverno e durante a primavera, a comunidade fitoplanctônica apresentou uma composição mais diversa, com o aparecimento de algas verdes (Chlorophyceae), principalmente espécies de Scenedesmus e Desmodesmus. A aplicação-teste de Phoslock® no ambiente comprovou o efeito do produto na diminuição da biomassa fitoplanctônica, e mudança na comunidade em função do aumento da transparência do lago. ...
