Abstract in Portuguese (Brasil)
Abstract
The presence of antimicrobial-resistant Gram-negative bacteria in aquatic environments threatens human and animal health. Drinking water is everyone's right and human activities have had an impact on these environments, due to the production of domestic, industrial, agricultural and hospital effluents that carry numerous pollutants and pathogens to water bodies. Bacterial strains carrying antimicrobial resistance genes have been detected on all continents, including public water supplies. Gram- ...
Gram-negative bacteria are of relevant interest when it comes to antimicrobial resistance, due to resistance mechanisms and associations with serious nosocomial infections. This review demonstrates the need for new methods of water treatment and effective management for the protection and restoration of aquatic ecosystems. ...
