Abstract in Portuguese (Brasil)

Feline primary lung tumors are rare and aggressive neoplastic diseases, which are typically diagnosed in geriatric patients. Cats with primary lung tumors usually show nonspecific clinical signs, and often the diagnosis of tumor is late, which facilitates the onset of metastases. The main sites for metastases of this type of tumor are the pleural cavity, bronchial lymph nodes, digits, skeletal muscle, brain, eyes, skin, liver, spleen, kidneys and other soft tissues. The detection of metastases is complicated because these tumors only become large enough to be detected at a relatively late stage. Feline lung-digit syndrome describes an unusual form of metastasis from primary pulmonary neoplasms to the distal phalanges, where the weight-bearing digits are most often affected. Involvement of multiple digits and multiple limbs is common. The objective of this work is to characterize the main aspects of this syndrome through a brief literature review, besides presenting a case report of a male fourteen years old Persian cat, that was treated at the Hospital de Clínicas Veterinárias at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, whose clinical condition was characteristic of this syndrome. ...
