O surgimento e a internacionalização do HIV a partir do colonialismo : os casos da República Democrática do Congo e da África do Sul

Abstract

Este trabalho analisa a correlação entre o surgimento e expansão do vírus do HIV-1 na África e as alterações estruturais causadas pela colonização europeia do território. Dessa forma, será estudado o surgimento do vírus na República Democrática do Congo, associado às políticas colonizadoras de Leopoldo II e da Bélgica, as quais causaram fatores de risco que potencializaram a transmissão do HIV e surgimento da epidemia. A seguir será observado como o vírus surgiu e se expandiu, chegando aos territórios continentais da África Austral, relacionado aos conflitos associados às independências dos Estados na região, a partir da década de 1960. Por último, será analisada a inserção do vírus na África do Sul, relacionado ao contexto do Apartheid e ao trabalho minerador de imigrantes, e as políticas para o HIV e AIDS dos primeiros governos sul-africanos após a descoberta do vírus até o momento da distribuição de antirretrovirais para a população.

This work seeks to analyze the correlation between the emergence and expansion of the HIV-1 virus in Africa and the structural changes caused by the European colonization of the territory. With this in mind, the emergence of the virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo, associated with the colonization policies of Leopoldo II and Belgium, which caused risk factors that potentiated the transmission of HIV and the emergence of the epidemic will be analyzed. Next, how the virus emerged and expanded, reaching the continental territories of Southern Africa, associated with the conflicts related to the independence of States in the region, starting in the 1960s, will be observed. Finally, the insertion of the virus in South Africa will be analyzed, related to the context of the Apartheid and immigrant mining work, and the HIV and AIDS policies of the first South African governments after the virus was discovered, until the distribution of antiretrovirals to the population.
