A Biblioteca do Instituto Histórico e Geográfico do Rio Grande do Sul preserva a memória social a partir de suas obras raras?

Abstract

As bibliotecas procuram prolongar o tempo de vida útil das coleções de obras raras pois a mesma é de grande valia para historiadores e pesquisadores, onde o tratamento destas obras requer conhecimento específico, habilidade no manuseio e na sua preservação. Estejam as instituições no contexto regional ou local, elas representam um passado comum, atuando no imaginário e no cotidiano dos indivíduos como lugares privilegiados no convívio social. O Instituto Histórico e Geográfico do Rio Grande do Sul tem como um dos seus objetivos, estabelecer um local para armazenamento da memória social e da história do Estado tendo como referência os intelectuais gaúchos. O método de pesquisa empregado neste trabalho foi o exploratório e de natureza básica. Assim, foram buscados documentos relevantes para o estudo onde a fundamentação teórica, com a utilização de fontes bibliográficas, foi fundamental no serviço de coletar o que existe na literatura referente ao tema já que, não houve a possibilidade da pesquisa in loco em razão da pandemia em que estamos vivendo. A fim de elucidar de que forma as obras raras existentes na biblioteca do IHGRGS estão sendo preservadas, este estudo objetiva verificar uma maneira de salvaguardar livros e documentos que constituem o patrimônio público através da memória social destacando algumas iniciativas no sentido de preservar a coleção de obras.

Libraries seek to extend the useful life of collections of rare works because it is of great value to historians and researchers, where the treatment of these works requires specific knowledge, skill in handling and preserving them. Whether the institutions are in the regional or local context, they represent a common past, acting in the imagination and in the daily lives of individuals as privileged places in social life. One of the objectives of the Historical and Geographic Institute of Rio Grande do Sul is to establish a place for the storage of social memory and the history of the State with reference to the intellectuals of Rio Grande do Sul. The research method employed in this work was exploratory and basic in nature. Thus, relevant documents were sought for the study where the theoretical foundation, with the use of bibliographic sources, was fundamental in the service of collecting what exists in the literature regarding the topic, since there was no possibility of on-site research due to the pandemic that we're living in. In order to elucidate how the rare works existing in the IHGRGS library are being preserved, this study aims to verify a way to safeguard books and documents that constitute the public heritage through social memory, highlighting some initiatives in order to preserve the collection of works.
