Wittgenstein and the birth of computer science
Abstract in Portuguese (Brasil)

In the beginning of the 20th century, mathematicians, logicians and philosophers were engaged in finding solutions to the foundational crisis of mathematics. The effervescence of ideas due to this crisis eventually led to the birth of Computer Science. This work aims to present the ideas and contributions of the austriac philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein that were relevant in this context. First, we review the main elements of its philosophy, and the most important facts which lead to the beginning of Computer Science. Then we identify the concepts originally described in his philosophy that were manifested in the context of classic models of computation. We finally discuss his connections with important precursors of Computer Science, and his overall impact on the area. ...
