Em cartaz : o Cine Theatro Independência como patrimônio cultural da cidade de São Leopoldo (RS)

Abstract

Este trabalho de conclusão de curso se propôs a investigar o processo de inserção do Cine Theatro Independência na lista de bens com interesse de preservação do município de São Leopoldo, Rio Grande do Sul. O estudo analisou a trajetória da edificação e das atividades oferecidas ao longo de sua existência para problematizar os valores que o elegeram passível de patrimonialização, já que atualmente o espaço está descaracterizado e abriga uma loja comercial. Para o embasamento teórico do trabalho, conceitos como mercado cultural, perda e “espírito do lugar” contribuíram para a reflexão em torno do uso cultural e comercial do prédio e até que ponto essas mudanças influenciam nos processos preservacionistas. A metodologia abrangeu análise documental e bibliográfica, como consulta de livros, teses, dissertações, artigos de jornais, legislação e sites para compreender a história do Cine Theatro Independência, aproximando-o tanto das transformações ocorridas no circuito exibidor brasileiro como da evolução das leis municipais de preservação da cidade de São Leopoldo e suas aplicações. A pesquisa ressaltou a importância dos aspectos intangíveis do patrimônio material e como eles precisam também ser considerados quando se trabalha a preservação destes bens. Conclui que embora a comunidade estimasse seu valor cultural, o poder público limitou-se a enxergar apenas seu valor estético, sem com isso protegê-lo da perda de sua originalidade. Mesmo assim, com a sobrevivência material, o Cine Theatro Independência ainda pode ser explorado em toda sua potencialidade.

This paper aimed to investigate the process of insertion of Cine Theater Independence in the list of goods to be preserved in the city of Sao Leopoldo, Rio Grande do Sul. The study analyzed the trajectory of the building and the activities offered throughout its existence in order to problematize the values that made it possible to become a municipal heritage, since in the space currently operates a commercial store and it has lost its primary characteristics. As a theoretical basis of this work, concepts such as cultural market, loss and “spirit of the place” contributed to the reflection on the cultural and commercial use of the building and how these changes affected preservation processes. The methodology was based on documentary and bibliographical analysis, research on books, theses, dissertations, newspaper articles, legislation and websites to understand the history of Cine Independencia Theater, aiming to approximate it to the transformations that occurred in the development of municipal preservation laws and its applications. The research emphasized the importance of intangible aspects of material heritage and how they also need to be considered when working on their preservation. It concludes that although the community estimated its cultural value, the public power saw only its aesthetic value, without protecting it from the loss of its originality. Even so, with material preservation, Cine Theatro Independência can still be explored to its full potential.
