Insegurança alimentar e sua associação com características sociodemográficas em uma população da área central de Porto Alegre/RS

Abstract

A Segurança Alimentar e Nutricional (SAN) representa a realização do direito humano ao acesso regular e permanente à uma alimentação digna e saudável. A violação desse direito conduz a situações de insegurança alimentar (IA), que vem sendo associada a diferenças socioeconômicas e demográficas através de estudos em diferentes populações. O presente trabalho objetiva medir a prevalência de insegurança alimentar em uma população da área central de Porto Alegre/RS e sua associação com variáveis sociodemográficas. Trata-se de um estudo transversal analítico, de base populacional, que investigou adultos de ambos os sexos residentes no território adstrito à Unidade Básica de Saúde (UBS) Santa Cecília. Foi utilizada uma versão reduzida da EBIA para mensurar insegurança alimentar, bem como questionários pré-testados para analisar as variáveis sociodemográficas. Foi empregado o teste Qui-quadrado de Pearson nas associações entre desfecho e exposições. A prevalência de insegurança alimentar na amostra foi de 51,25%, e esteve associada ao sexo feminino, possuir menos de 61 anos de idade e menor nível de escolaridade, a família ser de baixa renda, beneficiária do Programa Bolsa Família, possuir mais de 3 membros no domicílio e residir em área de menor IDHM. Conclui-se que os dados apresentados evidenciam a dimensão da insegurança alimentar frente às condições socioeconômicas e demográficas da população investigada, chamando a atenção para a alta prevalência de IA encontrada na amostra.

Food Security (FS) represents the realization of the human right to regular and permanent access to decent and healthy food. Violation of this right leads to food insecurity (FI), which has been associated with socioeconomic and demographic differences through studies in different populations. The present study aims to measure the prevalence of food insecurity in a population of the central area of Porto Alegre/RS and its association with sociodemographic variables. This is a population-based analytical cross-sectional study that investigated adults of both sexes living in the territory of the Santa Cecília Basic Health Unit. A short version of the EBIA was used to measure food insecurity, as well as pre-tested questionnaires to analyze sociodemographic variables. Pearson's Chi-square test was used in the associations between outcome and exposures. The prevalence of food insecurity in the sample was 51.25%, with a significant association for the interviewed being female, under 61 years of age and lower level of education, with the family being low-income, beneficiary of the Bolsa Familia Program, having more than 3 members at home and residing in a lower HDI area. In conclusion, the data show the dimension of food insecurity in view of the socioeconomic and demographic conditions of the investigated population, drawing attention to the high prevalence of FI found in the sample.
