A arte de Silvio Nunes Pinto : a poética da madeira

Abstract

O artista afrodescendente Silvio Nunes Pinto produziu uma rica obra em madeira durante sua existência como trabalhador rural, mantendo um duplo contato com o esse meio e o urbano, o que foi fator determinante na criação e produção de suas peças, esculturas, ferramentas e mobiliário. Propõe-se neste trabalho apresentar um recorte da obra do artista produzida entre a década de 1960 e o início do século XXI. Poética da madeira é o subtítulo escolhido, tendo em vista que Silvio Nunes Pinto estabeleceu com este material uma relação poética constante durante a maior parte da vida, criando peças originais, em paralelo às atividades laborais para sua subsistência. Apresentamos também um panorama da exposição Silvio Nunes Pinto: ofício e engenho promovida em 2016 pela Fundação Vera Chaves Barcellos, instituição onde está tombado o conjunto da obra do artista, quando o público teve a oportunidade de conhecer o seu trabalho artístico. É objetivo desta monografia desenvolver algumas reflexões contemporâneas sobre a história das exposições de arte popular no Brasil, bem como a recepção crítica do trabalho dos chamados artistas populares por parte das instituições museais, das galerias de arte popular, dos pesquisadores acadêmicos e sobre o conceito de arte popular e de artificação.

The Afro-descendant artist Silvio Nunes Pinto produced a rich work in wood during his life as a rural worker, maintaining a double contact with this environment and the urban area, which was a determinant factor in the creation and production of his pieces of art, sculptures, tools, and furniture. This paper proposes to present a sampling of the artist's work produced from the early 1960s through the beginning of the 21st century. Poetic of wood is the subtitle chosen, given that Silvio Nunes Pinto established with this material a constant poetic relationship during most of his life, creating original pieces, in parallel to the work activities of his livelihood. We also present a panorama of the exhibition Silvio Nunes Pinto: craft and ingenuity, promoted in 2016 by the Vera Chaves Barcellos Foundation, the institution where is listed the whole of the artist's work, when the public had the opportunity to know his artwork. It is the purpose of this undergraduate thesis to develop some contemporary reflections on the history of folk art exhibitions in Brazil, as well as the critical reception of the work of so-called popular artists by museum institutions, art galleries featuring folk art, academic researchers and about the concept of folk art and artification.
