O gênero Valeriana possui cerca de 270 espécies, a maior parte delas localizadas em zonas alpinas do velho mundo e nos Andes da América do Sul. No Brasil ocorrem 14 espécies, 11 delas endêmicas, principalmente em campos de altitude das Regiões Sul e Sudeste. O presente trabalho apresenta uma análise morfológica e um estudo taxonômico das espécies brasileiras.
