As perspectivas de Douhet, Seversky e Lemay sobre a força aérea e seu perfil

Abstract

Este trabalho procurou elucidar o perfil da Força Aérea para os autores Giulio Douhet, Alexander P. de Seversky e Curtis Emerson LeMay. O objetivo geral do trabalho foi estudar, explicar e sintetizar as diferentes concepções de perfil de Força Aérea nestas três gerações de teóricos do Poder Aéreo, representadas pela escolha destes três relevantes pensadores de seu tempo. Para tanto, estabeleceuse como pergunta principal da pesquisa: em que consistem as abordagens de Giulio Douhet, Alexander P. Seversky e Curtis E. LeMay sobre o perfil da Força Aérea? Como hipóteses, assumiuse que: (1) pode-se observar uma diferenciação progressiva de papéis atribuídos à Força Aérea. Estas diferentes atribuições seriam cumpridas por especializações da Força, constituídas por suas Armas e Serviços; (2) que os autores restringem, em menor ou maior grau, o papel da Força Aérea ao bombardeio estratégico, como sua principal função. Ao final, conclui-se que as hipóteses foram corroboradas. Além disso, propõem-se uma maior consideração sobre os aspectos do aerotransporte e do bombardeio enquanto instrumento para defesa de costa.

This monography aimed to elucidate the profile of the Air Force for the authors Giulio Douhet, Alexander P. Seversky and Curtis Emerson LeMay. The main objective of this work was studying, explaining and synthesizing the different Air Force profile conceptions in these three generations of Air Power theorists, represented by the choice of these three relevant thinkers of their time. For that, it was established as the main question of the research: which are the approaches of Giulio Douhet, Alexander P. Seversky and Curtis E. LeMay about the profile of the Air Force? As hypotheses, it was assumed that: (1) a progressive differentiation of roles attributed to the Air Force can be observed. These different attributions would be fulfilled by specializations of the Force, constituted by their Weapons and Services; (2) the authors restrict, to a lesser or greater extent, the role of the Air Force to strategic bombing, as its main function. At the end, the conclusion was that the hypotheses were corroborated. In addition, greater consideration is given to the aspects of air transport and bombardment as an instrument for coastal defense.
