O uso de medicamentos é essencial para a prevenção e tratamento de várias doenças, porém a sua utilização inadequada pode causar problemas relacionados a medicamentos (PRM), gerando gastos adicionais de recursos da saúde pública. Estima-se que para cada dólar gasto com medicamentos, 1,33 dólares são consumidos para tratar PRM. Conhecendo estes custos é possível realizar análises farmacoeconômicas, que permitem o planejamento de ações preventivas e de redução de PRM que podem ser evitados, a fim de produzir impacto positivo na qualidade de vida das pessoas, na segurança do sistema de saúde e na eficiência da alocação dos recursos. Para tanto, realizou-se uma revisão sistemática de estudos que avaliaram o potencial das intervenções farmacêuticas sobre a economia de recursos. Para serem eleitos, os estudos deveriam envolver a intervenção do farmacêutico na identificação, prevenção ou solução de morbidades relacionadas a medicamentos e o custo evitável a intervenção do farmacêutico. Através da busca nas bases Medline via PubMed, LILACS, ProQuest Dissertations and Theses, Scielo e Scopus, foram incluídos 99 estudos, porém teve-se acesso a 55 (43 transversais, 7 coortes, 3 ensaios clínicos randomizados controlados e 2 ensaios clínicos não-randomizados), totalizando uma população de aproximadamente 637 mil pacientes com idade média de 64 anos Os resultados demonstraram que a perspectiva de custos dos estudos era majoritariamente de hospitais e do governo. As principais intervenções realizadas pelos farmacêuticos foram ajuste de dose, descontinuação e início de nova terapia e identificação e manejo de PRM, sendo que o nível de aceitação das intervenções foi de 77%. Dos estudos analisados, 89% relataram que as intervenções dos farmacêuticos economizaram recursos de forma significativa e aproximadamente 20% deles mostrou uma economia superior a um milhão de dólares por ano. Além disso, a cada dólar gasto com o farmacêutico, em torno de 24 dólares são economizados com as intervenções deste profissional. Estes resultados demonstram que o farmacêutico a partir das intervenções clínicas, tem o potencial de reduzir expressivamente os custos em saúde para o sistema. ...
